Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip NDIS workers and support staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to maintain fire safety and respond effectively during emergencies. Fires can occur in any environment, and in disability support settings they present unique challenges due to the vulnerabilities of participants and the duty of care expected of workers.

This training will build awareness of fire hazards, strengthen prevention strategies, and provide clear guidance on how to manage evacuation drills. By completing this course, learners will be better prepared to act with confidence, protect lives, and uphold compliance with Australian fire safety laws and NDIS Practice Standards.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define fire safety and explain its importance in NDIS service environments.
  2. Identify risks and hazards that can contribute to workplace fires, with special attention to participant needs.
  3. Apply safe fire prevention strategies and respond effectively using emergency procedures.
  4. Demonstrate correct use of fire equipment such as alarms, extinguishers, and blankets.
  5. Support participants respectfully during evacuation drills, ensuring safety, dignity, and compliance.
  6. Align practice with NDIS Practice Standards and Australian fire safety laws, contributing to organisational readiness and a culture of accountability.
