Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide advanced knowledge and applied skills in hazard identification and risk management within disability support environments. In NDIS workplaces, risks and hazards are present in many forms, ranging from physical dangers such as slips and trips, to psychosocial risks like stress or challenging behaviours.

This course helps staff understand how to systematically identify hazards, assess their impact, and implement appropriate control measures. By mastering these skills, learners will enhance participant safety, protect staff wellbeing, and ensure organisations remain compliant with legislative and NDIS requirements.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the session, learners will be able to:

  1. Define hazard identification and risk management in NDIS workplaces and explain their relevance to participant safety and organisational compliance.
  2. Recognise risks and their impact on participants and staff, including physical, psychosocial, and environmental risks.
  3. Apply systematic procedures for hazard identification, risk assessment, and control using real-world workplace examples.
  4. Align practice with NDIS Practice Standards, WHS legislation, and organisational policies, ensuring compliance is met across all operational levels.
  5. Contribute to a culture of safety, accountability, and compliance by embedding hazard management practices into daily work routines and team culture.
