Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip staff with the knowledge and skills to understand and actively promote psychological safety in the workplace. Psychological safety is essential in NDIS environments because it allows workers to raise concerns, share ideas, and contribute to problem solving without fear of criticism or retaliation.

This course will give participants the confidence to recognise when psychological safety is strong or lacking and provide practical strategies to improve it. By developing these skills, workers will create safer and more supportive environments for both staff and participants. This directly improves service quality, supports compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, and helps build workplaces where trust, openness, and respect are part of everyday practice.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Define psychological safety and its workplace relevance by explaining what it means and why it is critical in NDIS workplaces.
  2. Identify risks and consequences of poor psychological safety including staff burnout, participant harm, and organisational non-compliance.
  3. Apply safe procedures to foster trust and collaboration by practising open communication, respectful feedback, and constructive conflict resolution.
  4. Align practice with NDIS Practice Standards and policies ensuring that behaviours and systems meet regulatory expectations.
  5. Build a culture of respect, openness, and accountability by contributing to a workplace where people feel confident to share, learn from mistakes, and continuously improve.
